Gallery – Renovating the main area

Submitted by Lee on June 6, 2009 – 11:15 pmOne Comment

This week was quite a milestone for our mini renovation with my Dad spending the week at the house to complete the plastering so we can finally say goodbye to the awful state of the walls that were there and it’ll be ready to paint the next time we go out.

Below is a quick reminder of what we originally bought. All the walls were clad in a wood that 18months down the line we’ve only just finished burning & behind this cladding was a distater of unfinished, rough, holy, wet and mouldy brick work.

Original wall covered in wood cladding!

Old kitchen all covered in stipple plaster!

All this has to be removed & redone

The above pictures shows the foam insulated walls in place, these were removed and the chimney breast taken back to its original state (see saving the chimney post HERE). With the walls prepared it was time to start the battening and to fit in the new electrics and CAT5 data cable.

Old electrics on show. All to be replaced.

Battening in place, ready for plaster boarding.

Plaster board in place.

The 2nd door to the old 2nd room will be boarded up. If you remember we removed the two walls to make them into one room, this left us with a 2ft deep whole in the wall, not sure what to do with it Dad suggested we use it as a built in wardbrode and that’s exactly what we did.

The “door way” actually needed finishing first so the inside again was battened and this time a render was used (as opposed to plaster) & left to dry. This is now ready for a pole to be put in a clothes to go on. The wife is VERY happy.

Unfinished doorway.

Repairs underway.

Rendered, Plastered and now useable!

Now it’s time to start actually plastering the main room. With the temperature in the 70’s the problem was going to be how much plaster to make and how to apply it before it went off. Two days later it was done :

Main wall, plastered with electrics & data installed.

Front wall, holes filled with data & electrics replaced.

This area is now powered & data enabled for the hifi :)

With all the walls now plastered, and the old window surrounds 100% rescued this part of the house is ready for a coat of paint that will transform it from a cold, tired and unloved room into a fresh feeling area ready once again to be lived in. We aren’t finished with this room by a long way but having a Dad that can plaster & has found the time to help out has saved us so much time and ¢1000’s.

We really couldn’t have done it without him.

With the efford that has already gone into this room this will be the last room we “re-renovate” when we come round to starting the main rebuilding.

Thanks so much to my Dad, we are really looking forward to getting this painted and some furniture in.

Thanks Dawn and Lee it certainly was a challenge, but with the effort we all put into it, removing stippling, battening, rewiring etc,now it’s all come to fruition and looks a treat, the painting will finish it off just right. Just goes to show with time and effort a pigs ear can become a silk purse.
    NOW FOR THE BEDROOM SHEEEEEESH!!!!!!!
